Kitra is admitted to practice in all Kansas courts, including the U.S. District Court of Kansas. She is also licensed to practice in Missouri and the Western District of Missouri. She is a member of the Riley County, Kansas, and Missouri Bar Associations.She is also a member of the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association.

Kitra serves on the executive board for the Junior League of the Flint Hills and is a member of the (delete "Board of Directors) Geary County American Red Cross Advisory Board. She is also involved with the American Heart Association Go Red for Women Committee and is a United States Tennis Association certified tennis umpire.

Kitra is married to Joe Schartz, a teacher and coach at Manhattan High School. They have three children.
